Indicative prices, October 2026. Units assume about 1,500 units per kW per year. Your price depends on roof height, brands and cable length.

Small homes may pay even less. Gujarat has announced an extra state subsidy for systems up to 2.18 kWp commissioned from 22 October 2026, so eligible families pay about 10% of the benchmark cost (5% for SC/ST). The details are in our Gujarat solar subsidy guide. For 4 kW, 7 kW, panel-only prices and a full 3 kW cost breakdown, see the solar panel price list for Gujarat.

Size and roof space

How Big a Solar System Do You Need?

In Ahmedabad, 1 kW of rooftop solar produces about 1,500 units a year, or roughly 125 units a month, and needs 80 to 100 sq ft of shade-free roof. Use your average monthly units from the electricity bill to find a starting size.

These are starting points. We confirm the final size after the site visit, based on your sanctioned load, roof and usage pattern. For cost and payback on your own bill, use the solar savings calculator.

Based on about 1,500 units per kW per year. Actual generation depends on shade, tilt, cleaning and weather.

Net Metering in Ahmedabad: Torrent Power and UGVCL

Most homes and businesses inside Ahmedabad city are supplied by Torrent Power. Areas outside the city limits, such as Bavla and Sanand, usually come under UGVCL. The paperwork differs a little between the two, and ASV handles both.

With net metering, the units your plant sends to the grid are adjusted against the units you take from it, so you pay only for the difference.

  1. ApplicationWe file your rooftop solar and net metering application with your DISCOM, and the PM Surya Ghar subsidy application for homes.
  2. Feasibility approvalThe DISCOM checks your connection and sanctioned load and approves the plant size.
  3. InstallationOur team installs and tests the plant, usually within days for a home system.
  4. Inspection and net meterThe DISCOM inspects the plant and installs a bidirectional net meter.
  5. Commissioning and subsidyThe plant starts generating. For homes, the subsidy is credited to your bank account after commissioning.

From application to subsidy, a typical home takes about 45–75 days, depending on the DISCOM's queue. Surplus units left at the end of the billing cycle are bought at about ₹2.25 per unit. Home tariffs for FY 2026-27 are ₹3.20–5.00 per unit for Torrent Power and ₹3.05–5.20 for UGVCL, plus fuel surcharge, so every solar unit you use yourself is worth more than one you export.

Questions Ahmedabad customers ask

Solar in Ahmedabad: FAQs

How much does rooftop solar cost in Ahmedabad?

A 3 kW home system with DCR panels costs about ₹1.50–1.71 lakh installed, or ₹72,000–93,000 after the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy. A 5 kW system costs about ₹2.40–2.75 lakh before subsidy (indicative, October 2026).

How much subsidy can I get for solar in Ahmedabad?

Homes get ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW under PM Surya Ghar, up to ₹78,000. Gujarat has also announced an extra state subsidy for systems up to 2.18 kWp from 22 October 2026. Factories and shops do not get this subsidy. ASV files the application for you.

How long does Torrent Power net metering take?

For a home, the full process from application to subsidy usually takes about 45–75 days, depending on the DISCOM's inspection queue. Installation itself takes 1–3 days. ASV handles the Torrent Power and UGVCL paperwork.

Is my area under Torrent Power or UGVCL?

Most of Ahmedabad city is supplied by Torrent Power, and much of the surrounding district, including several GIDC estates, is supplied by UGVCL. The DISCOM name is printed on your electricity bill.

How do I choose the best solar company in Ahmedabad?

Check that the company is a registered PM Surya Ghar vendor, uses DCR panels for subsidy systems, quotes the exact kWp and brands, includes earthing and a lightning arrester, gives 5 years of free maintenance in writing, and can show real local projects you can visit.

Can a 3 kW solar system run an AC?

A 3 kW system makes about 375 units a month. A 1.5-ton inverter AC used for 8 hours a day in summer can use roughly 250–350 units a month, so a home with one AC plus normal use often needs 3–5 kW. We size it from your 12-month bill.

Can I pay for solar in EMIs?

Yes. PM Surya Ghar offers collateral-free bank loans of up to ₹2 lakh at about 7% for home systems up to 3 kW. ASV also works with solar finance partners such as Solfin, Ecofy and Ratnaafin, with terms set by the lender.

Do you provide maintenance (AMC) after installation?

Yes. Home systems under PM Surya Ghar include 5 years of free maintenance from the vendor. For factories and commercial plants we offer AMC plans with panel cleaning, checks and performance monitoring.

Do you install solar for factories in Ahmedabad GIDCs?

Yes. We have built plants in Vatva GIDC (100 kWp) and Kerala GIDC, Bavla (250 kWp), and serve Naroda, Odhav, Changodar, Sanand and Santej. Factory systems do not get the subsidy, but higher commercial tariffs mean they often pay back in a few years.

How much roof space do I need?

About 80–100 sq ft of shade-free roof per kW. A 3 kW home system needs roughly 240–300 sq ft, and a 100 kW factory system needs about 8,000–10,000 sq ft.
